Each year, in conjunction with the District 200 Executive Team, the Clay teachers write and follow a School Improvement Plan. This plan is directly connected to the District 200 Strategic Plan. This year’s plan has four specific goals for the students and teachers at Clay Academy.
The first two goals pertain to growth in literacy and math. Staff members have implemented interventions using technology along with other strategies. Moby Max and Read Theory are the two main websites being utilized for literacy, and Front Row for math. These websites are aligned to the Common Core Standards and provide feedback on growth to staff.
The third goal focuses on technology integration. All classrooms at Clay have access to Chromebooks and we will continue to add more. In addition, staff is being trained to use the Canvas Learning Management System and this will be utilized as a tool for students and parents to access student work from home as well as school.
The fourth goal developed is designed to focus on social/emotional growth for Clay students. Clay Academy’s philosophy is to teach behavioral and emotional interventions to strengthen students’ abilities behaviorally in order for them to return to their home school. To help students do this, we have changed our level system and provide brain breaks and more physical activity to increase performance academically and emotionally.
